Tourism Highlights Print

Namibia, the Diamond of Africa is a faciniating destination on the African continent. South Africa's tourism slogo is "The world combined in one country", which could also be the slogan for Namibia. The tourism sector in Namibia is booming since gaining independence in 1990 and is increasing annualy with up to 10%. With more than 900,000 tourists in 2008, Namibia is one of the most popular tourism destinations in Africa. Not without reason Namibia was already voted in 2003 by Condé Nast Traveller as nukber 18 of the world's best tourist destinations.

What you can expect is no mass tourism à la Kenya  and no extraordinary high priced lodges as in Botswana. You will find a nearly uninhabitated country with an unbelievable variety of sights and things to explore. All this combined with the fact that Namibia is a safe tourist destination where you can travel on your own, meeting friendly and open minded people in an untouched environment with hundreds of thousands head of game and European standard hotels, lodges and restaurants. What Germans love especially and make them chose Namibia as their primary destination in Africa is the fact that still a lot remains like in the German colonial time some 100 years ago... street names, the German language in everyday use, etc.

Nature
Namibia is globally known for its environmental laws and efforts (not only for writing down the conservation of the envrionment into the constitution as the first country in the world) and the well-known national parks with the Etosha National park being one of the top 5 nature conservation areas in Africa. More than 18% of the total land area of Namibia are national parks and conservation areas, increasing year to year. The latest in this line was the Mangetti National Park in 2009. The recently proclaimed Sperrgebiet National Park (2008) with more than 26,000 sqkm will in future form the largest conservation area in the world (together with the Namib-Naukluft-Park, and the National West-Coast as well as the Skeleton Coast Park).
